Paralegal
Location: Boise, ID
Primary Function
To serve as a case manager and strategic support partner to attorneys by owning day-to-day case progression, anticipating legal and procedural needs, and ensuring all matters move forward efficiently, accurately, and in alignment with firm standards. The paralegal exercises independent judgment within scope, identifies risks, and drives communication across clients, attorneys, and external stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Own Client Communication & Experience — Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, managing expectations, providing timely updates, and ensuring clients are prepared for hearings, treatment requirements, and case milestones
- Drive Case Progression & Accountability — Independently manage a full caseload, maintaining real-time awareness of case status, deadlines, and next actions; proactively move cases forward without waiting for attorney direction
- Draft & Prepare Legal Work Product — Draft motions, pleadings, and correspondence with minimal supervision; review discovery and case materials to identify key facts, gaps, and follow-up needs
- Manage Deadlines, Docketing & Court Logistics — Coordinate with attorneys and legal operations to maintain accurate calendars, meet all filing deadlines, and ensure readiness for hearings, including special logistics (remote appearances, interpreters, custody status, etc.)
- Coordinate Across Stakeholders — Communicate and coordinate with courts, prosecutors, clients, and internal team members to ensure seamless case handling and information flow
- Ensure Quality Control & Risk Mitigation — Maintain organized, audit-ready files; review work for accuracy and completeness; identify potential risks or missed steps and take initiative to resolve or escalate

- Cases consistently move forward without attorneys needing to prompt next steps
- No missed deadlines, filings, or court appearances
- Attorneys have immediate confidence in case status and preparedness at any time
- Clients feel informed, prepared, and supported throughout their case without repeated follow-ups
- Case files are consistently organized, complete, and ready for handoff or review at any stage
- Potential issues (missing discovery, client non-compliance, scheduling conflicts, etc.) are identified early and addressed proactively
- The paralegal is viewed as a reliable operator who reduces attorney workload—not just redistributes it

Minimum Qualifications/Experience
- Education: Associate’s degree or Certificate in Paralegal Studies from an ABA-approved program (or equivalent combination of education/experience)
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant within a law firm or corporate legal department
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and legal management software (e.g., Clio)
- Case Management: Proven ability to manage court filings, attorney schedules, and complex document workflows
- Competencies: Strong organizational skills, sound professional judgment, and a strict commitment to maintaining client confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Certifications: Active Notary Public commission; NALA (CP/ACP) or NFPA (RP) certification
- Technical Expertise: Advanced experience with legal research databases (Westlaw/LexisNexis) and e-Discovery platforms (Relativity)
- Specialization: Prior experience in a specific practice area relevant to the firm (e.g., Litigation, Corporate, or Real Estate)
- Communication: Bilingual proficiency (e.g., English/Spanish) and advanced legal drafting capabilities
Physical Demands
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Frequent use of hands for typing, writing, and handling documents
- Ability to read and review detailed documents, both in print and on a screen
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching to access files and office equipment
- Ability to lift and carry files, boxes, or office materials (typically up to 15-25 pounds)
- Regular communication with clients, colleagues, and court personnel (in person, by phone, and via video)
- Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail for extended periods
- Occasional travel to court, client meetings, or other legal offices (if applicable)
- Occasional overtime and occasional weekends
