Liam Stokes

Criminal Defense Attorney

Liam Stokes chose criminal defense because the courtroom is where he belongs. The predictability of a desk job was never in the cards for him. Liam is wired for the high-pressure, fast-moving reality of trial work, and that energy translates directly into the persistence and preparation his clients receive from the moment he takes their case.

Before joining John Malek Law Group, Liam served as a prosecutor for Ada County, where he took 25 cases to trial. That time on the other side of the aisle gave him a detailed understanding of how the state builds its cases, where it cuts corners, and how it presents evidence to a jury. He now uses that knowledge to take apart the prosecution’s strategy before it ever gains traction. When your attorney has sat in the prosecutor’s chair, he knows the playbook, and he knows how to beat it.

The Prosecutor’s Playbook, Used Against Them

Liam’s prosecutorial background is not just a line on a resume. It is a tactical advantage for every client he represents. He understands the internal logistics and the delicate intricacies of how cases are assembled, what prosecutors prioritize, and where their arguments are most vulnerable. That insight allows him to get ahead of the state’s strategy from day one, building a defense that is proactive rather than reactive. He does not wait to see what the prosecution throws at the wall. He is already three moves ahead, positioning his client for the strongest possible outcome.

No Two Hands Are the Same

Liam operates on a core belief that every case is dealt a different set of cards, and it is his job to play them better than anyone on the other side of the courtroom. Cookie-cutter defenses do not exist in his practice. He evaluates the specifics of each situation, identifies where the leverage is, and builds a strategy around the reality of what he is working with. That kind of strategic problem solving, combined with an unwillingness to quit, is what makes the difference when someone’s future is on the line.

Outside the Courtroom

A true Idahoan at heart, Liam spends his free time taking full advantage of everything the state has to offer. When he is not in trial, you will find him in McCall, somewhere near the Sawtooth peaks, or on the water. His weekends revolve around hunting, fishing, skiing, and golf, usually in that order.
