Ben Mason has spent the better part of two decades learning exactly how large, well-funded institutions operate from the inside. Now he uses that knowledge to tear apart the prosecution’s case and protect the rights of people across Eastern Idaho.
A native of Idaho Falls and a graduate of Idaho Falls High School, Ben earned his B.S. in Psychology from Brigham Young University before completing his J.D. at the University of Idaho College of Law. He started his legal career right here at home, spending five years handling personal injury and divorce cases in Idaho Falls. But it was his next chapter that gave him the kind of experience most criminal defense attorneys never get.
Ben relocated to Arizona and then California, where he spent more than a decade rising through the ranks of a major Professional Employer Organization. That company grew into a Fortune 500 firm during his tenure, and Ben ultimately served as its Vice President of Litigation, overseeing a vast portfolio of legal challenges across multiple states and international borders. He managed everything from workers’ compensation defense to intricate civil litigation, building a deep understanding of how complex legal systems function and, more importantly, where they break down.
Why Criminal Defense
After years navigating corporate legal structures, Ben came home to Idaho and found his calling in criminal defense. What drew him to this work was its clarity. In criminal law, the questions are foundational: Were this person’s constitutional rights respected? Did the state meet its burden of proof? Ben believes the answer matters every single time, regardless of the charge.
His philosophy is straightforward. The state must jump through every hoop it is supposed to. Whether a client is facing a first-offense misdemeanor or a serious felony, the process must be fair, the evidence must hold up, and the police must respect the rights of the people they serve. Ben does not take shortcuts, and he does not let the prosecution take them either.
Honest Counsel, Real Results
Ben’s clients will tell you that his greatest strength is his candor. He does not sugarcoat outcomes or promise results he cannot deliver. Instead, he gives every client a clear, realistic picture of where their case stands and what the road ahead looks like. That honesty can be hard to hear, but it means his clients are never blindsided and always prepared.
Ben identifies most closely with the firm’s core value of Excellence. The drive to do the best possible work for every client is what keeps him sharp, and it is the standard he holds himself to on every case that crosses his desk. He is also a firm believer in using advanced technology to streamline legal research and drafting, allowing him to stay focused on strategy and advocacy rather than paperwork.
